Phone Banking
Phone banking is a form of political canvassing where campaign organizers and volunteers make calls to talk directly to voters, recruit other volunteers, fundraise, and organize events. Supporters call their friends to identify their support, persuade the undecided, register voters, inform them about voter registration deadlines, and get them to the polls. Although seemingly antiquated, phone banking remains an important way for campaigns to reach voters, especially older ones, and is a core aspect of nearly every campaign strategy.
I designed the volunteer-facing online phone bank tool that allowed for multiple modes of calling in one interface and the method for campaign staff to configure the phone banks and their scripts.

The phone bank app is used by campaign volunteers. Volunteers start by calling a household, where they either continue to navigate through a branched script or mark an alternative call outcome such as "no answer" or "moved". They can start, stop, and skip calls. In each phone bank session, users continue to proceed through a range of households and people that are generated for them in the UI.
Volunteers can RSVP people to events, edit their contact information, and leave comments about them. Volunteers can view the campaign leaderboard to understand their performance and how they rank against other callers' volume on the campaign.

In the new designs, users add a series of conditional "script segments", which can be either text or a question with answers. They connect these segments to form a branched or linear script for phone bank volunteers to follow.

Event landing pages are used by potential attendees and include event information, a map, campaign details, and a form field to RSVP. I designed the experience and flows for RSVPing, confirmations, canceling, and reminders.

We needed an improved method for configuring these events in PDI's client SaaS tool. I redesigned the campaign admin experience for creating and managing events.
To set up an event, users enter the event details and configure automated communication and reminders for attendees. They can optionally schedule shifts, which allows them to create sets of categorized time blocks within an event, for example "Shift 1: Door-to-Door Canvassing at 4-6PM". In addition to shifts, we built a new feature for optional ticketed events.
Once an event is created, admin can manage the event, continue to invite and assign attendees to shifts, contact attendees, make edits, view analytics and understand its performance to goal.

I led the creation of PDI's design system with two other designers. PDI had just acquired two companies and recently developed new branding. Taking into consideration the existing UI components and patterns across all of these products, we created a library inspired by the new branding and incorporated the necessary components to bring all of the products together.
